Kawabata literature has often been regarded as full of nothingness, which has been sublimated into a traditional sense of beauty, and thus has constructed a unique literary world. This study turns from this mainstream argument to focus on the redemptive nature of Kawabata's literature. For example, how to find hope in a natural disaster, or to find comfort in the grief over the death of a loved one. This study, however, looks at everyday life. For example, how to get rid of social constraints and habits. In particular, this study focuses on the Palm-of-the-Hand Stories in Kawabata's works. The reason for this is that there are many of these novels in Kawabata's works, and the entanglement and struggle with the habit can be revealed in the novels. The nine works were selected for analysis in two directions: 'Freedom from the family and the land' and 'Freedom from the habits of life. The study also focuses on how this literary theme relates to the philosophy of Kawabata literature. The first is the idea of 'everything is the same and reincarnation' that has become the mainstream of research, the second is the meaning of contemporary fiction as advocated by Kawabata, and the last is the way Kawabata's literature responds to social issues. |
