This study explored the differences between independent research and science fair, and how these differences were important to understand, especially in purposes, course planning, practice, and legal provisions in the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-Year Basic Education for Gifted Students and the Guidelines for Primary and Secondary School Science Fair. Literature review was conducted to highlight the importance and uniqueness of independent research in gifted education, and it also indicated that science fair should not be considered as courses or activities required for gifted education. Supervisors of science fair and gifted education teachers were advised to distinguish the differences between independent research and science fair and figured out the appropriate methods to guide the two types of teaching activities. |
