The study of following has become an emerging research topic in the field of leadership. The main purpose of this study is to explore the subordinate followership perceived by leaders of Taiwan and Chinese organizations and establish an implicit followership scale. In study 1, we develop the Implicit Followership Questionnaire (IFQ). Confirmatory factor analyses supported a multidimensional measure of implicit followership with four dimensions: holistic thinking, respectful, conscientious, advice giving. Instudy 2, we examine the consequences of implicit followership by conducting structural equation modeling (SEM). The results show that the supervisor expects the subordinates to be more conscientious and advice giving, the better task performance of the subordinates will be. Furthermore, the higher promotability ratings by the supervisor. Implications for research and practice are discussed. |
