Blockchain is expanding its applications beyond cryptocurrency. For the sake of technical features, blockchain could help organizations develop their social responsibility capabilities. There is, however, a lack of research on this topic. Thus, this article is to explore how blockchain help organizations improve their capabilities to respond to stakeholders in the process of social responsibility fulfilment. Based on an illustrative case of a non-profit organization's charity project, we argue that blockchain can fill the trust gap in corporate social responsibility endeavors. Blockchain can ensure the “right to donation” of stakeholders, allowing them to independently and timely verify the authenticity of corporate social responsibility activities. It can also reinforce organizations' capability toward positive ethical awareness, driving organizations to transparently and appropriately deliberate social responsibility practices. Finally, added-values of “decentralization” and “asset transfer” of blockchain can reinforce organizations' capabilities to manage issues related to performance of response for social responsibility efforts. |
