Following globalization and social reform, the context of talent development has changed significantly in Taiwan. Meanwhile, the demand for physical education teachers further decreases due to declining fertility rate, making becoming a permanent physical education teacher even more challenging. By analyzing the experience of a physical education teacher who has been outstanding throughout her career, this could provide useful reference for others who intend to enter the same profession. Purposes: To discuss the case’s competences behind her career excellence, including reviewing her progress of becoming a formal physical education teacher, and the workplace challenges she encountered and how she responded to them. Methods: A case study adopted the structural functionalism perspective. Data collection included semi-structural interview and related literature. To enhance credibility, triangulation was used with informed consent and confidentiality, which was in compliance with research ethics regulations. Conclusion: 1. Family support, high self-expectation and determined goal setting throughout the case’s earlier age play a significant part in helping her to strike a balance between the academic and sport fields, achieve the top academic ranking, and become an international gold-medallist and the coach of a champion in the domestic event. 2. As a result of solid talent cultivation, the habit of lifelong learning, and developing problem-solving skills, the case was able to seek for help and optimize available resources when she faced challenges at work, hence maintained high-standard career performance. |
