One important lesson that I learned from my father, Dr. Arnold M. Katz (1932-2016), a leading figure in the field of cardiology (some of his books have been translated into Chinese), is that one of the greatest honors in academic life is to have one’s work critiqued by scholars one admires and respects. That this honor should occur following the publication of a book just after my 60th birthday (剛好一甲子) makes it even more meaningful. Therefore, to mark such a special occasion, before I offer some responses to these critiques, I would like to share two core principles that have guided my academic career. |
