Taiwan's rich geographical and environmental features offer challenging terrains for hikers. However, mountain hikers must assess the compatibility of their hiking skills with such terrains. Diverse features warrant different specialization levels. Thus, this study aims to explore recreation specialization, recreationist-environment fit, and place attachment, as well as the relationship among the three aspects. Participants include hikers climbing one of Yushan's main peaks. The research applies structural equation modeling and both online and offline questionnaires. Data from 407 valid questionnaires and the findings of a path analysis highlight the following. The degree of recreation specialization significantly impacts recreationist-environment fit. Hikers' recreation specialization significantly affects place attachment. Recreationist-environment fit significantly influences place attachment. In sum, recreationist-environment fit has a mediating effect on recreation specialization and place attachment. |
