"The project was conducted because the nurses in new-born observation room usually need to answer the baby-care consultation calls from primipara after baby’s discharge. Our study revealed that first, the correctness of baby care was generally low in primipara due to tiredness, confinement culture, and insufficient learning time. Second, nursing staff provided the information to primiparas only once at discharge. Third, the environment was noisy and the teaching session was easily interrupted. Fourth, teaching materials were wordy with less pictorial demonstration, which were difficult to understand. Thus, a series of improvement strategy was implemented in the project. They included applying multiple teaching methods, using digital textbooks, setting up a dedicated room for education, and creating a flexible duration of baby-care. Our results showed that accuracy of knowledge and skills of baby-care for primiparas increased from 66.5% to 90.2% and 43.1% to 90.6% , respectively. The project can be a reference for providing health education to primiparas." |
