"Luo-Jin-xi is an erudite scholar, who cultivated a keen interest in the doctrine of the Four Books and Six Classics. At first, his efforts focused on the study of Song-Ming Confucian Idealist Philosophy, but they didn’t make him achieve its essence. After spending time studying the significance of these classical books along with the advantage of his harmonious family since childhood, Luo-Jin-xi connected the idea of the self with the notion of brotherhood, thus constructing the life philosophy of Filial Piety and Fraternal Compassion. Aware of the notion of filial piety and fraternal duty as the core essence of Analects, Mencius, Great Learning, and Doctrine of the Mean, he later on realized that this idea is extended from the term“lifegrowth生生,”found in The Book of Change. The idea of“the pure heart of a newborn baby”is the starting point and core value of Luo-Jin-xi’s thought. Therefore, my essay will examine the essence of the idea of pure innocence and the significance of self-cultivation through Luo-Jin-xi’s interpretation on the“Trigram of Returning復卦.”" |
