"This research note is concerned with how a school teacher crossed boundaries to become an agent of social transformation through self-narration. By narrating and analyzing my experience from school to the Free Tibet Movement, I hope to show how a school teacher can become a transformative intellectual. My preliminary conclusion is that, whether as a teacher or a transformative intellectual, I have always wanted to be myself and have tried to realize and transcend myself. Adopting an outsider’s view of oneself and engaging in self-awareness, reflection and practice will help a teacher to transform. Subsequent transformation into becoming an advocate for social movements needs further study." |
