"The purpose of this action research is to investigate how to improve the learning effectiveness of the competency-based Scout course. This research applied experiential learning as the main teaching strategy to develop the lesson plan for a class of seventh graders in Kaohsiung City. Qualitative and quantitative data were both collected and analyzed, including: teacher’s reflection of the teaching dilemma before the implementation of the course, analysis and design of the lesson plan, teacher's classroom observation, student's learning portfolio, content of students’worksheets, student's learning check list, attitude questionnaire, and teachers’reflections during the teaching process. The findings are as follows: (1). this course enhanced students’learning motivation and strengthened students’sense of responsibility for their own learnings; (2). this course successfully assisted students in self-reflection and helped them internalize and apply their learning experience into scout learning; (3). When applying experiential learning into a competence-based scout course, teachers should consider student’s differences and course content to arrange sufficient time to provide students with opportunities for independent learning and to deal with new knowledge; and (4). effective cooperative learning requires consideration of both students’entry behaviors and the class atmosphere. Based on the research findings, suggestions regarding the teaching and research for the future are also provided." |
