當代中國佛教思想語境下的人文關懷

清末民初以來，在傳統宗法社會崩解、科舉取士制度取消的情況下，長期居於主宰地位的儒家意識型態在中國經受無情的挑戰。在此情況下，過去在中國社會文化中居於較為邊緣角色、並且被界定為較與現實人生無關的佛教，獲得了重新自我認識的機遇。五四運動之後，梁漱溟就此也提出其質疑；為了回應質疑，歐陽竟無、太虛、印順等現代中國佛教思想家為佛教的人文關懷建構了新的論述。這些思想家建構的現代中國佛教思想，樹立了佛教在社會文化中的主體意識，並創造了具備現代化特質的新佛學。本文是在前人理論建構的基礎之上，進行佛教義理與現代倫理議題的對話，可以在實踐和理論上進一步推展佛教的人文關懷。從佛教的業報信仰背後的人觀（眾生觀），可以看到佛教非孤立的自我觀，而是眾生通體，這是佛教人文關懷的哲學基礎；佛教的空觀也給人文關懷提供了超越與解放的憑藉。引述余英時的研究，也就是中國佛教發展的入世傾向，在北宋僧人透過《中庸》的提倡與詮釋，將佛教哲學思維的語境脈絡移入儒學領域，促成了中國哲學在宋以後的佛教化。這說明佛教化已經是中國傳統思想的重要組成部份。最後引鄧子美教授「以中國佛教為基礎重建中國文化」的說法作結，呈現新一代中國思想家對於相關問題的思考。
