Lymphovascular space invasion has been defined as the presence of viable tumor cells in endothelial lined channels, outside the bulk of the invasive tumor. Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecologic malignancy, in which 5-year disease-specific survival rate is high. However, it has been estimated that somewhat cases to recur within early-stage, low-risk endometriod endometrial adenocarcinoma. Although including other risk factor for recurrence, such as age, grade, depth of myometrial invasion, tumor size, and non-endometrioid cell type, LVSI is still a strong independent risk factor for the development of pelvic and distant recurrences even in low risk stage I endometrial cancer. Therefore, chemotherapy alone or in combination with radiotherapy seems to be beneficial for positive LVSI early stage endometrial cancer. |
