Following the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the demand for personal protective equipment increased daily. By establishing an efficient reserve management and supply control system for personal protective equipment, we minimized the influence of this impact on the equipment reserve, protected hospital visitors, and strengthened the confidence and trust of hospital staff. Herein, we use a medical center in Southern Taiwan as an example to illustrate how we monitored and maintained the equipment reserve; this case study also indicates the outcomes of this system. By using such a system, frontline healthcare workers and hospital staff were reassured about the supply of personal protective equipment and that all medical treatments could thus remain fully functional and continuously well-operated. We also established a standard procedure for urgent procurement. Overall, this system was a key element in this medical center’s successful response to the epidemic. |
