The application of 3D modelling of remains excavated from underwater archaeological sites

本文描述三維掃描技術運用在建立水下考古物件的數位模型，以幾個具有不同材質（陶瓷和木質）及表面特徵的物件為案例，討論並比較四種不同掃描技術在表面潤濕下的效果。此方法顯示出水或出土物件的三維數位模型，無論是否在實驗室都可以快速地被建立。此外，田野期間完成之三維模型，除可完備保存處理歷程紀錄外，亦可提供後續保存修復研究與典藏管理維護運用。

This paper describes the use of 3D scanning techniques to create digital models of objects recovered from underwater archaeological sites. Using examples of several objects of different material types with different surface characteristics (ceramic and wood) three different scanning technologies are compared. The effects of surface wetness are discussed. The methods demonstrate that 3D digital models of underwater finds can be created rapidly and easily either on site or in the laboratory. Implementation of these methods allows accurate documentation of finds for both archival digital collections and dissemination to relevant researchers.
