Facing the emerging threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) established a quarantine ward with refurbishment of equipment on January 22, 2020, by adopting the experience learned from the pandemic of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2003. As of June 10, 2020, there have been five stages of dynamic adjustments in the response to the trends of domestic as well as imported cases of confirmed and probable/suspected COVID-19 at NTUH by taking into consideration of the capacity of the quarantine ward and negative-pressure rooms. The quarantine ward operated through dynamic adjustments in order to maintain stable capacity and to prevent nosocomial transmission, including implementation of strict restriction of visitors, detailed inquiry into the travel and exposure history of the patients and visitors, updates on the information from Taiwan Centers for Disease Control, establishment of training program of personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care providers and hospital cleaners, and dynamic adjustment of capacity and traffic control of quarantine ward in accordance to national burdens of COVID-19. |
