During and after Taiwan's President election and referendum in 2004, China took a strategy of controlling Taiwan situation by coordination with the US. The impacts are: first, the cross-strait relations become more complex and China's strategy become more delicate; second, the structure of US-China-Taiwan triangle is tightened further and, therefore, Taiwan has to be more careful in playing the game. This study suggests that Taiwan has to redefine its policy toward China in a post Cold War international system in order to ensure peace and security in the East Asia; also, Taiwan has to prepare for any emergency by enhancing its coordination with international society. |
