A Brief Introduction to Anthony Giddens' Structuration Theory : The Relationship between Globalization and the Third Way

本文主要在討論安東尼．紀登士的結構行動、全球化及第三條路的學說理論。首先介紹其生平、學術背景及重要著作；其次，探討行動兼結構理論意涵．再者，分析全球化與第三條路的意義及其相互關係。在結論中本文歸納出結構一行動論的大綱。從紀登士理論中可以發現：無論對全球化持肯定態度是反對全球化，任何一個國家似乎都無法變變全球化的客觀進程。因此，正確的態度應該是正視全球化的機遇和挑戰，積極參與到全球化進程中，努力做到趨利避害，以促進民族國家的經濟和社會發展。

The purpose of this paper is to review Anthony. Giddens' structuration theory, globalization, and the Third Way. First, we introduce his life, scholarship background and important published works. Next, the authors discuss the tenets of the structuration theory. Furthermore, we analyze globalization and the concept of the Third Way and their relationships. In conclusion, we evalute his structuration theory. Giddens argues that no matter what a firm attitude a nation holds against globalization, it cannot prevent the essential progress of it. Therefore, a nation should face the opportunity and challenge of globalization, and participate in its progress actively. The nation should make efforts to gain the benefit and avoid the disadvantages in the process in order to promote its economic and social development.
