While bus system is one of the major transit systems in Taipei city, itis now facing a serious decrease in passengers. In order to improve the busoperations and traffic congestion in Taipei, the Institute of Transportation,Ministry of Transportation and Communications has planned a grid bus network inJanuary 1995. However, the quantitative performance of this grid bus networkhasn't been evaluated in that plan. The main purpose of this study is toevaluate and compare the benefits between grid bus network and present busnetwork. This study is a 'before and macro' type evaluation. Six evaluationindices are chosen and can be divided into three groups: 1. User: average traveltime, average travel cost, 2. Operator: average turnover time and 3. Regulator(government): circuity of network, density of network, total cost of bus system.Due to complication of the real network, this study simulates the Taipei case bythe package of TRANPLAN. It is concluded from the case study that grid busnetwork is better and worth pursuing. |
