The rise and development of air power in the 20th century has transformed the battlefield from a traditional two-dimensional space by land and sea into three-dimensional war zone. The way of war changed accordingly. Across the frontline of battle, the use of airpower can directly strike the enemy homeland, and its political, military, economic center. The key to war victory still lies in attaining final political goals set by war parties. This article discusses of the consequences of application of coercive airpower strategy in military operations in Kosovo and Libya conducted by NATO. This paper argues that air power will play an important role in interventions in minor international disputes, especially in conflicts without changing the regime in question. Yet the coercive airpower strategy still need combine the use of ground forces to obtain final political victory, if the goal of intervention is to change the regime. |
