This was what my friend Gabby and I did over the Easter weekend- a road trip from Auckland to Wellington. What is a road trip? It is a commonly used term in the Western world, to mean a journey taken by your own car. Now that airfares are on the downward trend, many New Zealanders have travelled overseas numerous times but have yet to see their own country. Over the past few years the domestic airfare has dropped, which has encouraged New Zealanders to experience the beauty of their own country. The airfare may be inexpensive, however, I still prefer to drive to see the magnificent landscapes, mountains and rivers up close and personal. I would recommend overseas travellers to hire a car once they arrive here. The 'real' New Zealand can only be seen in a car, as tour buses cannot enter rural parts of the country. The countryside has endless numbers of 'look out points' on the side of the roads. A step or two out of the car leads you to million-dollar sceneries. |
