GNSS-R is a mission payload of Triton satellite which is designed and built by NSPO. GNSS-R mainly receives the L-band reflection signal of the GNSS satellites. When Triton satellite flying above the ocean, the received reflection signal can be retrieved to calculate the sea surface roughness and the sea surface wind speed. Through data assimilation, the obtained sea surface wind field data will be helpful to perceive the development of typhoon structure and improve forecasting accuracy. In addition to the observation of ocean surface winds, GNSS-R can also be applied to land applications. The reflection signal can also be used for detection of land water distribution, vegetation, soil moisture and other applications. At present, NSPO team has completed the fabrication of GNSS-R Flight Model (FM), which is in the phase of the integration and test (I&T) with the Triton satellite. Several flight tests have been conducted for the validation, calibration, and science data retrieval. |
