Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease, formerly known as Wuhan pneumonia, causing a severe global pandemic and posing a great threat to people’s health and lives. Nurse practitioners are advanced nurses who provide integrated and continuous medical services with physicians. During the COVID-19 pandemic, nurse practitioners play an important role in epidemic prevention and patient care. This study describes the role and functions of emergency nurse practitioners during the COVID-19 epidemic prevention period, in terms of direct patient care, education, consultation, and quality assurance. It is hoped that this article could bring more inspiration to the clinical frontline nurse practitioners, so their professional contribution in health care could be recognized by the public, and eventually enhance the overall professional image of nurse practitioners to facilitate professionalism development.
