The article presents an analysis of Taiwanese study (Ryoushou Kumagai, 1931), which compares studies by Chen Hui Long (1934) and Naoyoshi Ogawa (1931-1932). In this article, the words “予hōo,” “共kā,” “佮kah,” “落loh,” “愛ài,” and “親像tshin-tshiūnn” are discussed to observe the writing of Chinese characters and grammatical functions, the meanings of polysemous words, the relationship between Chinese characters and sounds, and the vocabulary and pragmatic division in order to clarify Ryoushou Kumagai’s use of Taiwanese during the Japanese colonial period and to present his contribution to Taiwanese studies. |
