Since 1992 China and Russia have made rapid progress towards a 'strategic partnership,' Sino-Russian relations now represent a model of the relationships which China could develop with other states, especially those in the West. Yet, only seven years ago such a prospect seemed highly unlikely. Beijing and Moscow are using their close ties as a bargaining chip vis-a-vis Washington. Political solidarity, economic interdependence, and a strategic cooperation partnership would appear to be beneficial to both partners. |
