Frailer older adults in long term care facilities have unique primary care needs. Nurse practitioners in the United States have been providing primary care to older adults in long term care settings. Residents of nursing homes receiving primary care from nursing practitioners have better health outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to review the role and responsibilities of nurse practitioners in long-term care-skilled care facilities as well as quality outcomes and advantages for care costs in the United States in order to provide a reference for the role development of nurse practitioners in long-term care for Taiwan. Nurse practitioners are to create a better care experience for older adults.
