The economic relations between the Russian Federation and the PRC are quite backward when compared to their political, diplomatic, and military connections. Bilateral economic relations are still concentrated in the field of foreign trade, and do not include investment and scientific-technical cooporation. Each of them has its own major trading partners, mainly in the western world, and is eager for or heavily dependant on western capital and trade. Undoubtedly, Moscow and Beijing have made some progress in mutual trade in the 90s, but both sides cannot be satisfied with such a slow pace. Although Moscow and Beijing believe there is still much potential for the deepening of economic ties, difficulties between the two countries cannot yet be overcome despite the close friendship and mutually advantageous relationship they have built. |
