This report describes the nursing care experience of a 33-year-old new immigrant woman suffering from the Guillain-Barre Syndrome in the intensive care unit. The patient was experiencing physical activity disorders and loss of self-control caused by muscle dysfunction. In addition, due to the language differences, the patient had doubts about the disease and the self-care methods. The nursing care period was from March 29 to April 05, 2016. The author collected information using physical assessment and applied Gordon’s 11 Functional Health Patterns to evaluate the patient and identified the following care problems with the patient: impaired physical mobility, powerlessness, and lack of knowledge. During the period of care, the author cooperated with the physical therapist, used charts to make patient understand how rehabilitation worked to improve physical function. Understanding the negative emotions of the patient, invited her spouse and daughter to participate in the rehabilitation process through the video conference system for added emotional support. Moreover, the author also cooperated with the pastoral staff to strengthen spiritual care for the patient. The author would like to share the care experience to provide reference for clinical care.
