There were rich empirical results of previous studies on the influence mechanism of educational tracking on future status attainment. However, concerning the data of previous studies, their samples were usually elder, and the sample size of university stage was not big enough. The study used the large sample size data from the nationwide survey— Taiwan Integrated Postsecondary Education Database (TIPED) to conduct the path analysis. As the respondents were mostly university/college students, they could suitably reflect the influence of higher education tracking and gender attributes of disciplines on status attainment. The results of this study are as follows. Regarding the factors which influenced the status attainment in the labor market, higher education tracking showed a great impact. Regarding the factors which influenced the occupational status and income, it was found that those who entered the academic tracking performed better than their counterparts in the vocational tracking. Moreover, those in the public tracking performed better than those in the private tracking. On the other hand, although those studying male disciplines had higher occupational status than those studying female and neutral disciplines, there was no significant difference in income obtained by people who studied in disciplines with different gender attributes. |
