With changing social and familial structures, the situation of elderly relocating to a long-term care facility has become more and more common. The purpose of this article was to explore the nursing experience for an elderly adult undergoing first-time relocation to a nursing home. From March 7 to May 6, 2014, data were collected through observation, interview, and physical examination according to Gordon’ functional health patterns. The nursing problems identified included relocation stress syndrome, imbalanced nutrition: less than body requirements, and constipation. By providing individualized living arrangement, dietary design, and health education, the author helped the adult adapt to the lives of relocation, improve the nutritional imbalance, and cultivate regular bowel habits. This nursing experience can serve as a reference for caring elderly adults undergoing first-time relocation to nursing homes. |
