This article described the nursing experience of a woman at marriage age facing breast cancer diagnosis confirmation and acceptance of surgical treatment. During the period from November 11, 2011 to December 25, 2011, the author collected data from outpatient department through observations, interviews, and telephone interviews using the Roy Adaptation Model nursing assessment tool. The patient’s health problems included anxiety, postoperative wound recovery delayed, and body image disturbance. Nursing interventions included providing emotional support, providing appropriate information, teaching post operation wound-care procedures, and assisting the patient to accept the breast condition. This nursing experience provides outpatient nurses with a reference of caring similar situation by considering patients’ individual differences and provide holistic nursing care. |
