This article described the nursing experience of caring a motherhood-disrupted 47-year-old patient who suffered from diffusive panbronchiolitis and had to rely on an respirator to breath normally. She was taken care by the author from November 6th to 22nd, ,2011.By using the Friedman Family Assessment Model, the author was able to collect basic information of the family, for instance: stages and mission of the family development; the environment; family structure; family function and pressure due to patient’s illness. After classifying and analyzing the collected, we revealed that not only the family had undergone family process changes but also the patient herself had experienced changes: her motherhood was interrupted and she suffered from ineffective breathing pattern. By direct –caring, listening, accompany, teaching the patient breathing exercises, arranging family meetings, bridging family communication, and seeking financial supports through social workers, the author was able to assist the patient continuing her motherhood as well as improving her relationship with her daughter. Besides that, helping the patient to continue her motherhood was considered as another method to boost the patient’s willingness to fight against the disease. Moreover, the author not only encouraged the patient and her family members expressing their feelings toward each other in order to strengthen their family communication and caring function, but also kept her family functioned normally by integrating the exterior and interior resources of the family to deal with the incident. |
