http://www.gouthyperuricemia.com Objective: To study the change in hemodynamics of ophthalmic artery (OA) and central retinal artery (CRA) in hyperuricemia by Doppler imaging. Methods: 101 hyperuricemia, 20 primary hypertension and 30 healthy subjects were recruited. The resistance index (RI), pulsatility index (PI), peak of systolic velocity (PSV), and end of diastolic velocity (EDV) of the OA and CRA were measured by Doppler examination. The differences between hyperuricemia group and control group, the group of hyperuricemia with hypertension and the group of primary hypertension were analyzed. Results: (1) The PSV and EDV of the OA and CRA in hyperuricemia group were lower and RI was higher than the healthy control group (P<0.05), The PSV and EDV of the OA and CRA in hyperuricemia with hypertension group were lower and RI was higher than hyperuricemia with normotensive (P<0.05). (2) The RI and PI of OA in hyperuricemia with hypertension group was higher than the primary hypertension group. (P<0.05). (3) The RI and PI of the OA in the subjects diagnosed as hyperuricemia more than five years was high , whereas the EDV of the OA of the subjects diagnosed of hyperuricemia more than five years was low (P<0.05). (4) Pearson association analysis showed positive correlation between the UA and RI of the OA (r=0.304, P=0.040), and the UA and PI of the OA (r=0.317, P=0.030) among the hyperuricemia subjects without hypertension. Conclusion: Hyperuricemia may be a risk factor for atherosclerosis in the peripheral vessel.
