According to statistics from the Department of Health, Execute Yuan, cancer has been the leading cause of death for the past 3 decades in Taiwan. Consequently, the government has actively promoted a continuous cancer care and integrated multidisciplinary operational model for providing high-quality and cost-effective medical care services to cancer patients. Recently, a case-based cancer-care system has been implemented across the health care system, which has effectively integrated medical resources through tumor case managers, thereby improving medical care quality and enhancing physician-patient relationships. An advanced-tumor case manager must possess professional knowledge, skills, and specific personality traits that combine firmness and flexibility to coordinate teamwork and maintain regulatory compliance during cancer diagnosis and treatment, protect patient interests, ensure patient benefits, and enhance medical care quality. Currently, the role, function, and managerial duty of tumor case managers across domestic hospitals have failed to exhibit consistency. Therefore, we introduce their roles and functions in practice and the educational training plans currently used for tumor case managers. |
