Due to the improvement in the quality of medical care, more than 50% of cancer patients have survived more than five years. The disease process and related treatment may impact patient’s functional status. It is a big challenge for clinical professionals to maintain or improve patients’ physical function and to promote life quality in their extended life. Study evidences pointed out that rehabilitation may assist cancer patients to achieve the best function. It includes occupational therapy, exercise training, and psychosocial rehabilitation. Although cancer rehabilitation has been booming development in Europe and the United States, but in Taiwan, it is still new. This article focuses on the goal setting of the cancer rehabilitation, the various stages, the evidence of effectiveness, and nursing roles and functions in cancer rehabilitation. We hope that medical care workers understand the concept and practice of cancer rehabilitation and use in clinical care to enhance the quality of care. |
