Postpartum exercises provide overall health benefits. Aiming to improve postpartum exercise completion rate, this project conducted a survey to reveal that the mean postpartum exercise completion rate and satisfaction score of postpartum women were 10.9% and 5.3, respectively. Another survey on nurses showed that nurses scored 35.8 on average in terms of their knowledge of postpartum exercise and had a mean satisfaction score of 4.6. The reasons given by participants that explain the low completion rate and inadequate knowledge score include (1) postpartum exercises being too intricate and thus difficult to memorize, (2) participants perceiving that postpartum exercises can be completed independently at home (without instruction), (3) the absence of regular reviews, (4) the lack of auxiliary equipment, and (5) the noncomprehensive nature of existing supplementary documents on postpartum exercises. The project's intervention includes (1) combining an innovative fitness sports turntable with audio files that are accessible through QR code; (2) introducing simple exercise phrases and key instructions; (3) adding text and image contents that aid the nursing practice, (4) revising general regulations pertaining to the evaluation of fitness for hospital discharge; (5) establishing in-service education mechanisms; (6) incorporating postpartum exercise-related knowledge as mandatory items into the orientation training of new recruits; (7) and implementing continual quality monitoring mechanisms. After the intervention, the mean postpartum exercise completion rate and satisfaction score were increased to 99.0% and 9.1, respectively, and the mean knowledge score and satisfaction score of nursing personnel were increased to 97.7 and 9.1, respectively. Therefore, the adequate provision of auxiliary equipment and hospital policies can improve postpartum exercise completion rate and satisfaction. The project findings may serve as a reference for health care units. |
