”The Human Chair” released in ”Kuraku” magazine by Rampo Edogawa in October 1925, is often mentioned the relation with other works in the history of Literature research. It was also referred to 'Futon' (”Shinshyousetu” , Sep 1907) and Koji Uno's 'In the Storehouse' (”Bunshyosckai”, Apr 1919) by Seori Takahash, not to mention other writers’ works such as Sakutaro, Tanizaki, Kenzi, and Kazii .. ,etc. Many writers’ articles also got a mention in Rampo Edogawa's fictions if we survey his works thoroughly. Even he would point out the influence of other writers on his articles explicitly. For the reasons above, the evidence of correlation between Edogawa's works and others is easily connected. It's odd that however, Edogawa never make any reference to the background of ”The Human Chair” with others' works. For this reason, there will be more issues to probe into, for example, the relation to other works, the reference sources and the effect on this fiction. This research mainly makes a study of Edogawa's ”The Human Chair” bascd on Dickens' ”The Bagman's Story”. ”The Human Chair” wi ll be interpreted first. While contextual analysis wi ll be procceding, the discussing about which part of story was written based on Dickens' ”The Bagman's Story” is continued. So is the purpose of Rampo Edogawa, inorder to find out the essence of this fiction . |
