The transportation network in Greater Taipei, the biggest traffic hub in the nation, supports major commute system within the city. Among those services, Taipei Joint Bus System plays a significant role providing daily services for cities’ residents and visitors. A well-designed bus route map is able to guide users correct information and to reduce their anxiety of finding their ways. It is a must to improve the visual information on the map in order to provide a better public transportation service. This is a pilot study within a bus service design and redesign project. Current study takes Route Map 205 as an example. Researchers generalize the design issues, analyze the recognition difficulties, and define design problems. The result shows that (1) users’ satisfaction on current bus route map is low, (2) the iconic design and its related visual information cannot convey the information accurately enough, and (3) the information that is provided from the map is not clear enough for users to understand. The results and identified items from this stage will provide key points and suggestions for designers to rethink and to redesign the map on the next stage. |
