When using ''Number-Classifier'' phrases (NCP) in Chinese, students of Chinese as a second/foreign language reveal different error patterns. So far most researches have paid attention exclusively to errors produced by American students. While having observed that American students use too many NCPs in Chinese, scholars neglect that Korean students use less NCPs in Chinese than actually needed. According to the researcher's observation, the reason is that Korean speakers use NCPs when they need to emphasize that a mentioned noun is something specific or not plural. The NCP in Korean has nothing to do with the textual context or discourse where it occurs. The researcher will present four types of errors Korean students produce when using NCPs in Chinese in this paper. Some pedagogical suggestions on NCP for Korean students from discourse and pedagogical grammar aspects are given in the end of the paper. |
