The article aims to clarify Thome H. Fang's and Liu Shu-Xian's concept understandings and interpretations of the ''orthodox transmission system'' and the ''academic transmission system'' in Confucianism as well as the mutual relationship between the two systems. It points out that Liu's cultural philosophy was constructed by following Fang's wise views and establishing his own view of the academic transmission system. At the same time, his view of the orthodox transmission system was mainly influenced by contemporary new Confucianism and Fang's affirmation of the ideal of nature-human unity ''endless propagation and comprehensive harmony,'' which is the consistent way of Chinese philosophy. |
