There is currently a significant trend toward internationalization throughout many countries worldwide. With regard to healthcare, the majority of the hospitals in Taiwan are promoting international medical centers as an important goal. While facing this wave of globalization, nursing education in Taiwan is looking forward to making a connection with the global village, and therefore reinforcing its students’ international competiveness and proficiency in foreign languages. The authors participated in the study abroad program, which is offered by the Chang Gung University of Science and Technology to the Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia. The authors attended lectures and visited a few healthcare organizations, and from the information they learned from these lectures, clinics, and shared experiences they were able to appreciate the differences in nursing education and nursing practice between Taiwan and Australia. After further introspection, the authors were also able to come up with some aspects of the internship experience that could be improved upon. Hopefully, this can provide nursing students and medical professionals with a more profound understanding of the modes of nursing education in different countries, which is valuable for the improvement of nursing education and making strides toward internationalization. |
