Talking About the Most Splendid Coastline: The Story of the Gifted Students Standing up for the Ocean

位在臺灣東海岸的花蓮縣宜昌國小，一群三至六年級的資優學生們關注海洋議題長達五年之久。學生透過資優教育中的假日充實課程方案，從文學家帶領進行海洋走查、賞鯨、划獨木舟到海泳，學生與海洋產生大量的連結，建立起密不可分的關係。接著，教師再透過情意、語文與專題課程的引導，帶著學生進行海洋觀察與探究，使學生們開始發現一連串的海洋問題，最後透過文字與倡議行動，讓學生們紛紛運用微小的力量站在各種舞台，試圖喚醒大眾對海洋保育的重視。

A weekend enrichment program that incorporated ocean concepts for a group of 3rd-6th grade gifted students in Yi-Chang Primary School of Hualien County on the east coast of Taiwan was made. The curricula exposed the students to ocean issues through diverse educational opportunities, to help discover their connection to the ocean. The series combined field research, whale watching, kayaking, and ocean swimming. Students were also engaged in ocean observation and exploration, and then started to discover a series of problems with the ocean. At the end of class, the students tried hard to write to call public attention to the ocean conservation.
