A weekend enrichment program that incorporated ocean concepts for a group of 3rd-6th grade gifted students in Yi-Chang Primary School of Hualien County on the east coast of Taiwan was made. The curricula exposed the students to ocean issues through diverse educational opportunities, to help discover their connection to the ocean. The series combined field research, whale watching, kayaking, and ocean swimming. Students were also engaged in ocean observation and exploration, and then started to discover a series of problems with the ocean. At the end of class, the students tried hard to write to call public attention to the ocean conservation. |
