We report the case of a teenaged girl with schizophreniform disorder and present our nursing experience of using play therapy to establish therapeutic relationships with her and ameliorate her social interaction disturbances. During the period of care, data were collected from April 10 to April 30, 2018, using observation, interviews, and a holistic five-dimension assessment. The following five health issues were identified: social interaction disturbances, sensory and perceptual disturbances, anxiety, and thought process disturbances. We used puppets, comics, and interactions to build trust relationships. Through this process, the patient learned how to respond to and overcome social interaction difficulties and symptom disturbances during interactions. This nursing experience can serve as a future reference for nursing colleagues in caring for similar patients. The puppet and comic-aid elements can be used in relationships to increase the diversity of interactions and thus enhance the effectiveness with which patients engage in social interactions. |
