Purpose: To conduct exploratory research on the living conditions and resource needs ofnewcomers with schizophrenia. To explore schizophrenia development of new residents and theirfamily dynamics to understand social and medical support network requirements to assist newresidents with schizophrenia.Methods: Before formal interviews, focus group interviews were conducted withprofessionals from new resident service agencies from the north, center, south, and east to discussrelevant research topics and to coordinate interviewees. Thereafter, 12 interviewees were selectedusing the sampling method. Due to disease peculiarity, a brief health scale test was given beforethe interviews to confirm the emotional state of the interviewer. Complete information wasobtained for each patient through an average of five to nine interviews.Results: (1) Various learning problems and family regulations lead to the disease. (2)Loopholes in the law increase domestic violence. (3) Nearly half of the new residents withschizophrenia were divorced. (4) The double discrimination relating to illness and identity affectsresilience.Recommendations: (1) Establish a positive social perspective. (2) Strengthen mental healththrough on-the-job education. (3) Amend relevant laws and regulations. |
