This study attempts to evaluate whether bus information service could help extend the duration for which passengers use bus as their major transportation mode by observing passengers’ bus usage, and by analyzing the characteristics of passengers using bus information service. The 7-year data were collected since the complete deployment of the Kaohsiung City bus information service. The survival analysis technique was adopted to evaluate the influence of introducing the bus information system on extending the duration for which passengers used bus as their major transportation mode. Furthermore, this study applied logistic regression to examine passengers’ characteristics to better understand the major user groups. The results show that the average duration of using buses as the major transportation mode is 0.19 years longer for the passengers who used bus information service than those who did not use bus information service. It is therefore concluded that bus information service can extend the duration for which passengers use bus as their major transportation means. In addition, the logistic regression analysis also identifies that female, highly educated, and young passengers are the main user groups. The study can not only provide a benefit analysis with stronger academic foundation, but also help authorities to effectively refine strategic plans when promoting bus information service in the future. |
