Language and cognition are interdependent; a language can be important for individual cognitive development as well as guiding behaviors. Learning and usage of a language are based on oral capabilities. As elementary schooling is a prime time for language learning, students should be cultivated with positive, adequate, reasonable, fluent and flexible abilities on oral expression. At present, however, teaching and learning of oral expression on Mandarin at elementary schools are not implemented properly. To this regard, the researchers anticipate a method for improvements, in view of grasping an opportunity during the implementation of new course outlines for the 12-year Basic Education, to develop students’ good ability on oral expression at the stage of elementary schools. Hence, on the basis of a qualitative research model using practical teaching methods, we studied 4th Grade students and conducted a two-part teaching on oral expression for a period of ten weeks. By exploring the effects on students’ phonetic expression and organizational representation, we propose some conclusions and offer related suggestions. |
