The purpose of this case report is to share a nursing experience of using a non- pharmacological approach in resolving a chronic constipation problem for a progressive fibrodyspiasia ossificans patient. The author had cared for this patient from October 12, 2009 to December 6, 2009. The patient’s chronic constipation problem was improved by using a continuous high fiber diet and abdominal massage. The bowel function is restored. The patient’s feeling of abdominal fullness and the associated dyspnea were subsided. In addition, the consumption of morphine was reduced. The patient’s quality of life was improved. This case report can be used as a reference for clinical professionals to plan a non-pharmacological nursing care for the chronic constipation condition. |
