The relationships of 45 personality variables assessed by the Chinese versions of Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF), Guilford Zimmerman Temperament Survey (GZTS), California Personality Inventory (CPI), and Taylor's Manifest Anxiety Scale (MAS) to individual modernity measured by the Individual Traditionality-Modernity Scale, a test specifically constructed for the use with Chinese subjects, were explored with 374 male and 673 female Chinese college students. It was found that individual modernity positively correlated with Spontaneity, Wellbeing (female only), Tolerance (female only), Achievement via Conformance (female only), and Flexibility on CPI; positively correlated with Ascendance (female only) and Masculinity (female only) and negatively with Constraint, Friendliness (female only), and Personal Relation on GZTS; positively correlated with Factors C, E, F, H (female only), and Q3 and negatively with Factors G(female only) and Q3 (male only) on 16 FP. |
