Radioactive 32P solution was injected into the pseudostem of banana to investigate the functional root distribution of Musa sapientum at different stages and growing in different areas. The study was to establish an effective fertilizer placement. The experiments were conducted at a flat grove near Pin-tung and at a terraced slope grove near Tai-chung. Based upon the radioactivity of the soil samples taken from various positions encircling a pseudostem as that there is no concentrative root system around a pseudostem. Most of the ramifying roots are evenly distributing about the top soil of advantageous condition. According to these findings recommendation for effective fertilization under different conditions are tentatively put forward. |
