The purpose of this study was to find out the rooting power of the cuttings of the varieties of lychee, Litchi Chinensis and rose, Rosa sjJft. as the frames were set inside the vinyl house in order to keep higher moisture. The growth regulators were naphthalene acetic acid CNAA) and indole butyric acid (IBA) as talc for carrier. The experiment have been conducted from 1st December 1964 to 31th March 1955 at the Institute of agriculture in Ping-tung. The varieties of lychee for trial were Hei Yeh, Loh Mai Chi, Sheung-shu Wei, Yu Ho Bou and Kuei We. Leafy cuttings were made from the ripe wood of the past season's growth, 8一-10inches long; while for roses were Queen Eliza!Jat九Josephin Bruce, White Christmas, Garden Party and Peace. Cuttings were made from wood about one year of age, 8-10 inches long, without leaves on. The results obtained were summarized as follows: I.For the encouragement of roots of lychee and rose cuttings, NAA showed more effective than IBA. Strong concentrations 10,000ppm and 20,000ppm of NAA offered best results for the rooting of lychee, its moderate concentration, 5,000 ppm promoted best rooting of roses. Moderate concentration of IBA 5,000ppm encouraged the formation of roots of lychee and its low concentration 1,000 ppm increased best the rooting power of roses. Strong. concentration .of IBA 10,000ppm and 20,000 ppm inhibited the rooting of roses. 2.NAA·concentration of high strength hastened the formation of callus at the cut.ting points, while IBA of high concentration discouraged the formation of callus. Still some chances of damage to the cuttings. occured after callusing has taken place. 3.Most green leaves remained on the cuttings of lychee which formed callus and roots. Approximately 1/3 to 1/2 wilting cuttings also remained more or less leaves which were wilt. All cuttings of roses were without leaves at the beginning of cutting procedures. 4.Treatments by high concentrations of NAA produced more number of roots and also increased its total length respectively (except var. Yu Ho Bo.u and Kwei We). and the root system of rose cuttings produced were much heavier by the treatment of NAA moderate concentration. The diameter of main roots didn't show difference between the treatments. 5.Different varieties of Lychee and roses respond variously to the above said growth regulators. Lychee varieties Hei Yeh, Loh Mai Chi and Sheung-shu Wei responded better than Yu Ho Bou and Kuei We. Rose varieties Queen Elizabath; Josephin Bruce, White Christmas and Garden Party responded better than Peace. 6.In outdoor frames the percentage of rooting of Lychee cuttings obtained was 0%, for roses only l-2Jt regardless to the using of growth regulators. |
